■ Emperor's Birthday Reception (Dec 4th 2012)
The Consulate General of Japan held
the Emperor's Birthday Reception at the Merchant Hall on 4th Dec, and about
180
guests attended.
The main guests were as follows;

-Mr John Swinney MSP, Cabinet Secretary for Finance
-Mr John Scot MSP, Deputy Presiding Officer
-Dr Norman Irons, Honorary Member of the Consular Corps

■ “Gagaku” Performance by Imperial Household Agency (Aug 22nd 2012)
On the 22nd of August, “Gagaku”
performance by the Imperial Household Agency was held at the sold out Festival
Theatre as part of the Edinburgh International Festival. The performance
concluded successfully to massive applause and a standing ovation.
The main guests were as follows;

-Lord Gill, Lord President and Lord Justice General
Dr Tomasz Trafas, Dean of the Consular Corps

■ Awarded the "SCOTTISH SAMURAI 2012" prize
On
the 27th May, Consul General Tarahara was invited to the International Karate
Festival and awarded the "SCOTTISH SAMURAI" prize for services to the fighting
arts in Scotland. The prize was presented by the president of the National
Karate Federation Scotland, Mr Ronnie Watt OBE, ORS, 8th Dan.
The prize has previously been awarded to the First Minister Alex Salmond and
Lord Charles Bruce.
■ Reception with the 12th Earl of Elgin's Family
On the 10th of December, Consul
General Tarahara invited the 12th Earl of Elgin, Countess of Elgin, Lord Charles
Bruce and his wife Lady Alice Bruce, his sister Lady Georgeana Bruce.
The 12th Earl of Elgin is a descendant of Scotland's National Hero the king
Robert The Bruce.

■ Conferment ceremony of the decoration of Mr George Kerr, President of British Judo Association(Jan 14th 2011 )
Following the announcement of by
the Japanese government on the 3rd of November, Consul General Tarahara held a
conferment ceremony at his residence to award Mr George Kerr, President of
British Judo Association, the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Rosette.
The award is in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the promotion of
judo and exchange and understanding between Japan and the UK. Mr George Kerr
holds judo’s highest rank, the 10th Dan( only 7 other people in the world have
achieved this).
The ceremony was reported by newspapers in Scotland and Sky TV.
