On 16th February, the Order of the Rising Sun was conferred on Mrs Deborah Hathorn in a ceremony at the residence of the Consul General of Japan in Edinburgh.
The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Rays was given by the Government of Japan on 3rd November last year in recognition of Mrs Deborah Christian Hathorn’s longstanding achievements in deepening international exchange through ikebana, and it was conferred in the presence of family and friends and those influenced by Mrs Hathorn’s achievements. Consul General Matsunaga detailed Mrs Hathorn’s achievements and conferred the award, following which Mrs Hathorn gave a speech thanking her family and friends for their years of support.
The ceremony was followed by a reception where everybody was able to celebrate Mrs Hathorn’s achievement with her.
