■ Visit to Ricoh (GR Advanced Materials LTD)
On the 24th September, the Consul General Mr Tarahara, visited Ricoh in Stirling. He received a briefing on the company and also a factory tour.
The company produces ink and master printers, which are sold all over the world. Despite the economic downturn, business is fairly stable for the company.
The Consul General was impressed that Ricoh is introducing cutting edge equipment that is increasing productivity and ensuring quality control.
■ Visit to Vascutek Ltd
On the 17th September, the Consul General visited Vascutek and received a briefing and factory tour from Dr Roshan Maini, President of Vascutek.
Vascutek, which is located in Renfrewshire, develops and produces artificial arteries for wholesale. In 2002, the company was acquired by the Japanese firm Terumo.
The visit included a ceremony to present Vascutek with the Queen’s Award for Enterprise: Innovation 2009
The ceremony was attended by Mr Guy W.N.H. Clark, the Lord Lieutenant of Renfrewshire, Mr Jack Perry, Chief Executive of Scottish Enterprise, and Mr Shogo Ninomiya, President of Terumo Europe.
The Queen’s Award is considered one of the most honourable awards for businesses to receive and this was the 7th time that Vascutek was a recipient.
