Report: North East Japanese Women’s Association meeting at Durham Castle

On Sunday 31st March Consul General Nozomu Takaoka attended a meeting organized by the North East Japanese Women’s Association at Durham Castle. For the Consul General’s full address please click here.

The meeting included officials and leading figures from local councils including: H.M. Lord-Lieutenant of County Durham Mrs Sue Snowdon, the former Lord-Lieutenant Sir Paul Nicholson, the Mayor of Durham, Councillor John Lethbridge, The Mayor of Darlington, Councillor Veronica Copeland, The Mayor of Stockton-on-Tees, Councillor Eileen Johnson and the Mayor of Hartlepool, Councillor Allan Barclay.

The NEJWA has been contributing to the cultural exchange between Japan and northeast England, as well as maintaining the welfare of Japanese residents living in the area, for many years. In his address the Consul General praised Lady Sara Nicholson, a patron of the Women's Association, whose initiative has sparked many meaningful undertakings by the association.
