Introduction of a consular appointment system

As part of the social distancing measures introduced in order to protect the health of our visitors and curb the spread of COVID-19, we have decided to introduce an individual appointment booking system for our consular services from Friday 1st of May 2020.

For the time being, we will only accept the following applications by post: resident registrations, changes to resident registrations (including change of address), certified translations of Japanese driving licenses, birth certificates, marriage certificates, certificates of no impediment, divorce certificates, as well as submission of documents related to family register. As we require that you collect your certificate in person, please contact us to arrange a collection appointment.

Please contact us at least two working days before your desired appointment day by phone to make an appointment. We hope you understand that in some cases we might unfortunately be unable to accommodate your preferred time and day. If you are more than 10 minutes late for your appointment, please contact us again to cancel and book another one at a later time. If you arrive early for your appointment, please understand that you will not be permitted to wait inside the Consulate. We also ask that you enter the Consulate one person at a time.

Please also understand that you may be asked about your temperature and physical condition when you arrive at the consulate and that you may be denied entry if you appear to be unwell. As part of our infection control measures for COVID-19, we kindly ask that you wipe the consular section counter, bench, and other surfaces after use with the single-use antibacterial wipes provided at the reception. Single-use wipes will also be available if you wish to clean the surface before use.

In addition, as we are currently operating at reduced capacity with limited numbers of staff, it may take us longer than usual to process your application. Please take this into consideration and allow for sufficient time when you apply.
