Regarding the temporary suspension of exemption from
visa requirements for Mexican citizens
In light of the escalating number of cases of A/H1N1 Swine influenza in the Republic of Mexico and the World Health Organisation’s decision to raise the level of influenza pandemic alert to Phase 4, the Government of Japan has taken the decision to temporarily suspend the visa exemption agreement as of the 28th of April.
Please note that it will henceforth be necessary for all Mexican citizens planning to enter Japan for less than 6 months for the purpose of short-term business, conference participation, tourism or to visit friends/relatives (Ordinary passport holders corresponding to the visa status ‘Temporary Visitor’), to obtain a Temporary Visitor visa at a Japanese Embassy/Consulate abroad prior to departure (There will be no changes in the entry requirements for those seeking to undertake paid employment in Japan).
For information regarding visa application requirements, please contact the
Visa Section.
The current visa exemption agreement will, however remain in place for Mexican diplomatic and official passport holders wishing to enter Japan for stays of not more than 6 months.
