■ Aberdeen Japan Day 2015 - Report ↓ On the 6th and 7th of June, the Consulate General of Japan collaborated with 'Aberdeen Friends of Japan' to host a two day celebration of Japanese culture in the International School and Cults Academy of Aberdeen. The Thistle Cup, an annual kendo competition for young kendoka in Scotland, was held on the 6th. Japan Day was held on the 7th, and showcased Japanese culture through a variety of experiences ranging from ikebana, tea ceremony, bonsai, and origami, to opportunities to try out traditional toys and festival games, listen to kamishibai storytelling, and enjoy musical performances. Japan's sightseeing spots were introduced, food was available for sampling, and there were kendo and karate demonstrations. Attendance for both events greatly exceeded expectations, and the weekend further deepened the friendship and mutual understanding between Japan and Aberdeen. As with the previous year's events, the day was made truly memorable by the attendance of Councillor George Adam, the Lord Provost of Aberdeen.
