What is it like to work as a diplomat? Mr Masataka Tarahara, Consul General of Japan in Edinburgh, will be happy to talk about the life and opinion of a diplomat, based on his experience as a career diplomat for over 30 years.
After graduating from Faculty of Law, Kyoto University, Mr Tarahara joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1979. His initial training at Oxford University for two years was followed by various posts, including those in Oman, The Netherlands, Kuwait, Malaysia and Canada. He also worked in 2000 as Deputy Chief of Protocol and Master of Ceremonies in Imperial Household Agency, and was in charge of Their Majesties the Emperor and Empress’s official visit to Europe. Since September 2009, he has been Consul General of Japan in Edinburgh.
Professor Steve Beaumont, Vice Principal for Research & Enterprise, University of Glasgow, will chair the seminar. This event is organised by the Innovation Network at the University of Glasgow.
