 The JET Programme is a scheme organized by the Japanese Government to      

 improve foreign language teaching in schools throughout Japan and to promote

 international understanding at local level. 

 

 More than 50,000 members from over 50 countries have participated in the JET

 programme since the start in 1987. In 2011, about 200 JET positions were filled

 by graduates from the UK. Every autumn the JET Programme recruits for two 

 basic job types:

    Assistant Language Teacher (ALT) and

    Co-ordinator for International Relations (CIR)
