The JET Programme is a scheme organized by the Japanese Government to
improve foreign language teaching in schools throughout Japan and to promote
international understanding at local level.
More than 50,000 members from over 50 countries have participated in the JET
programme since the start in 1987. In 2011, about 200 JET positions were filled
by graduates from the UK. Every autumn the JET Programme recruits for two
basic job types:
Assistant Language Teacher (ALT) and
Co-ordinator for International Relations (CIR)
