■ ‘Japan and Scotland – The Whisky Bond’ Report NEW
On Monday, March 14th, 2016, the Consulate General of Japan in Edinburgh, the University of Edinburgh, and Beam Suntory UK welcome around 60 guests to「Japan and Scotland – The Whisky Bond. The event comprised of two lectures, aimed at introducing the intertwined whisky heritage of the two countries, and a whisky tasting. Professor Yamazaki of Hokkaido University (currently an honorary Professor at the University of Stirling) introduced Japan and Scotland’s bilateral whisky history, and The Honorable Mr. Alex Bruce (Adelphi Distilleries, Ltd.) talked the crowd through the challenging task of bringing “The Glover”, the first official blend of a Scottish and Japanese whisky, to the market.
At the tasting, guests enjoyed sushi and sampled Suntory’s “Highball”, a drink famous in Japan and said to have fuelled the recent surge in whisky’s Japanese popularity! The Suntory was also enjoyed straight.
