■A Briefing Session on GTCS Registration - Report
On 26 September, the Consulate General of Japan in Edinburgh held a briefing session on GTCS registration for Japanese teachers at University of Edinburgh. The General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS) is a self-regulating body for teaching in Scotland, and it is a legal requirement for any teachers teaching in Scottish schools to be registered with GTCS.
Mrs Ellen Doherty, Director of Education, Registration and Professional Learning at GTCS, explained the process and requirements for registration, and carefully went through each question raised by the attendees.
At a reception, attendees actively exchanged their opinions regarding Japanese language education in Scotland., On this occasion, awarding ceremony of a certificate crediting the University of Edinburgh for its membership of “Sakura Network” (one of the Japanese language programmes offered by the Japan Foundation) was held, and Mr. Akazawa, deputy director general of Japan Foundation London presented the certificate to Professor James Smith, Vice Principal International.
