Culture and Education

The Consulate holds various cultural events throughout the year. 

The Consulate hosts the "Fringe Japan" event every year in August to coincide with the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, one of the biggest arts festival in the world.

JET is an acronym for The Japan Exchange and Teaching Programme. The JET Programme was launched in 1987 with the aim of promoting internationalisation at local levels by inviting young people from overseas to Japan and engaging in foreign language education and international exchange.

The Consulate has various cultural items that may be loaned for events. Please check over the guidelines carefully before requesting any items.

The Consulate visits schools in Scotland and north of England which are interested in learning about Japanese culture and language.
