Directions
 

From Waverley Station:

Walk towards the West End of Princes Street. You will see the Johnnie Walker Whisky store on the right at the end of Princes Street. There are three roads: turn right on to Queensferry Street. Carry on until you reach Melville Street, the third street on the left. Continue along Melville Street until you get to the statue in the centre of the road. The surrounding buildings are Melville Crescent.
Travel is also possible by using the Tram. Please board at St Andrews Square and alight at Princes Street (West End)  

From Haymarket Station:

Upon exiting the station, turn right and walk along Clifton Terrace. Take the third street on the left (Manor Place). Carry on along Manor Place and then take the second street on the right, which is Melville Street. Continue along Melville Street until you get to the statue in the centre of the road. The surrounding buildings are Melville Crescent.

Notes for visitors to the consulate

The Consulate General of Japan in Edinburgh does not have dedicated parking spaces. The parking spaces around the consulate are all pay-and-display; please be aware that failure to display a parking ticket is a parking violation. We recommend using public transport when you visit the consulate. 

Please note that, for public safety reasons, all visitors to the Consulate General of Japan in Edinburgh are required to bring with them some form of photographic identification (such as a passport or a driving licence) and may be required to have their belongings scanned by our security equipment. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding.

Event Promotion

The Consulate General of Japan in Edinburgh is interested in the promotion of Japan-related events in Scotland and the North of England, and we are able to post your event on our SNS. If you would like to contact us to register your event, please read the following guidelines:
1. Guidelines for registration
(1) Events should fulfill one of the following criteria:
  • They should contribute to advancing mutual understanding between the Japanese and British peoples.
  • They should serve to strengthen the bedrock of exchange underpinning Japan-UK relations.
  • They should contribute to deepening and expanding the scope of Japan-UK cooperation.

(2) Events should not promote any specific ideology, political view or religion and should not offend public decency (neither should organizations sponsoring events be engaged in activities that might be construed as offensive).

2. Benefit of registration
Projects registered with us will be uploaded on our social media. The Consulate will also send the details of your event to the Japan-UK Events Calendar operated by the embassy in London.

3. How to register
(1) Please forward your completed application form to the Consulate General of Japan in Edinburgh at info@ed.mofa.go.jp. Please note that, in order to ensure your event is listed on our social media in time, we ask that you send your application form at least 2 weeks prior to the event start date.
(2) The Consulate will review your application documents based on the guidelines.
(3) Once an event has been posted, the Consulate will send the details of your event to the Japan-UK Events Calendar operated by the embassy in London. The event will be listed and will inform people around the UK about the event’s details.
(4) Application for registration should be made only after the proposed project has been shown to be feasible in terms of such factors as the date, place and budget. (Event organizers bear the entire responsibility for procuring the necessary funds and securing appropriate locations.)
 
4. Notes
(1) In the event of cancellation or a significant change to the arrangements for an event, the organizers should inform the Consulate General of Japan in Edinburgh of the relevant circumstances without delay. Organizers should be aware that, once an event has been registered, if it is deemed that any of the guidelines have been breached, the registration may be cancelled.
(2) The purpose of listing events is to inform people about events organised by third parties. The Consulate General of Japan in Edinburgh does not accept any responsibility for the events registered, or any loss or damage resulting from the events registered or from any reliance placed on the information posted. With the exception of those events with explicit support of the Consulate General of Japan in Edinburgh, the sharing of information on an event does not amount to an endorsement by the Consulate General of Japan in Edinburgh or the Government of Japan of any event or organisation.
(3)  Following this procedure, event information posted on the consulate’s social media will have the following wording attached to the post:

 

“The purpose of this posting is to inform people about events organised by third parties. The Consulate does not accept any responsibility for any loss or damage resulting from the events registered. The sharing of information on this event does not amount to an endorsement by the Consulate General of Japan in Edinburgh.”
