Delegates from Nagasaki visited Scotland

 

The Nagasaki City delegation led by Mayor Tomihisa Taue visited Scotland. The purpose of their visit was to confirm the city’s hosting of the holding camp of the Scottish team prior to the Rugby World Cup 2019. The Japanese Under 15 Rugby team from Nagasaki accompanied the Mayor to deepen friendly relations between Nagasaki and Scotland through homestays, joint practice and a match with a local team.
On 23 August, Consul General Matsunaga watched the rugby match held in Edinburgh, together with the official delegation from Nagasaki including Mayor Taue. Later the same day, he hosted a reception at his residence attended by the Nagasaki delegation as well as representatives of the city’s Rugby Football Association and the Scottish Rugby Union (SRU).
Ms Fiona Hyslop MSP Cabinet Secretary for Culture, Tourism and External Affairs, graced the reception with her presence as the guest of honour.  Both Ms Hyslop and Mr Taue tasted “Fiona Sushi”, with mackerel and strawberry, an idea conceived by Ms Hyslop MSP when she visited Nagasaki last year, highlighting the reaffirmation of the strong ties between Japan and Scotland.

Prior to this, the Nagasaki delegation had visited Aberdeen, Nagasaki’s sister city since 2010. They renewed their friendly ties through visits to Lord Provost George Adam and Japan related organisations in Aberdeensaki delegation also visited Aberdeen City, with which it has a “Citizens’ Friendship City link-up” arrangement since 2010.  They renewed friendly relations with the City through meeting Lord Provost George Adam and Japan related organisations in Aberdeen.
