Fringe Performance – Misheru Hikari, “She and Her Cat”

This week until Saturday the 19th, Michelle van Rensburg is performing her English-language rakugo show, ‘She and Her Cat’. Michelle uses her Japanised stage name, Misheru Hikari, and despite never having been to Japan, she has worked hard to teach herself rakugo. Building on the foundations of her theatre training in her native South Africa, she has taken up the challenge of entering the world of rakugo, the Japanese art of storytelling where only dialogue is used to tell a story, with one person acting out all the roles.
