Up until now the fringe has featured an abundance of Taiko performances, but this year is the first time that the Fringe has featured Shakuhachi (traditional bamboo flute) musicians.
Markus Guhe and Marie-Elaine Maguire are both experienced Taiko players, who have performed around the world. Markus has developed a deep interest in Shakuhachi, and now holds a Master’s License. Markus is involved in many activities as a teacher and a Shakuhachi player.
This year’s Fringe not only features Shakuhachi performances, but also unique collaborations with Electric Piano and Taiko, and fascinating talks on the history of the instrument.
The Shakuhachi Experience will run until 25th of August at Venue 9, thespace, Niddry Street, Lower Theatre (Niddry Street, EH1 1TH).
