Queen Margaret University event Report

On the Monday 18th March Queen Margaret University held a Japan – UK season of Culture event featuring lectures on Japan and a fashion show, featuring Furisode Kimono with tartan decoration, from the costume design students of QMU.
After introduction from the Universities deputy principal, Dr Richard Butt; Consul General Takaoka gave an address thanking the University and the event’s organizer Professor Joe Goldblatt for making the event possible. Following this, the Consul General gave a lecture entitled ‘International organisational response to new global challenges’.
This was followed by a lecture by Dr Yazaki from the University of Glasgow on the history of Kimono, and their recyclability.
Finally, 13 students from the costume design course performed an international fashion show, pairing elegant Japanese kimono with beautifully made Scottish tartan.
