Report: Anniversary dinner to celebrate the first meeting between Mr.Taketsuru and Miss Rita Cowan (26th August)

On 26th August, a 100 year anniversary dinner was held in Kirkintilloch, just north of Glasgow to celebrate the first meeting between Miss Rita Cowan and Mr Masataka Taketsuru.
Kirtintilloch is the birthplace of Rita, who would later marry Masataka. He later introduced whisky distilling technology into Japan and founded Nikka Whisky. She would later be known as the ‘mother of Japanese whisky’ and was even the inspiration to a popular NHK morning drama television program, “Massan”.
The ceremony was attended by the Scottish Government’s Cabinet Secretary for Culture, Tourism and External Affairs Fiona Hyslop, the Provost for East-Dumbartonshire Alan and the organizer of this event and the owner of The Spirit of Alba, Jim Hopkin. The party was began with an introduction of Rita and Masataka’s wonderful encounter and their success in Japan, followed by Consul General Nozomu Takaoka’s toast.
