On 6 August, Consul General Nozomu Takaoka joined Mayor of Edinburgh, Frank Ross, Cllr. Bill Kidd MSP, SCND Chair Lynne Jamieson and University of Edinburgh’s Professor Jolyon Mitchell, in attending a Peace Crane Exhibition at St John's Church in Edinburgh

The event was inspired by the story of Sadako Sasaki, who folded a thousand paper cranes on her sickbed after the war, and later died aged 12, from radiation exposure to the bomb dropped on Hiroshima.

At the ceremony, Councilor Kidd delivered congratulations on behalf of the First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon, who recounted:

“I was previously privileged to meet some of the survivors of the 1945 bombings, who are known as the Hibakusha, when they visited the Scottish Parliament. My best wishes go to all of those attending the launch of Peace & Justice Scotland’s Peace Cranes exhibition as we look towards a world free from nuclear weapons.”

The exhibition will run until 28th August.
