Press Release - Conferral of the Order of the Rising Sun, Silver Rays, by the Government of Japan upon Mrs Anne Malcolm

1. On 3 November, the Government of Japan announced that Mrs Anne Malcolm, Chair of the Thomas Blake Glover Foundation, will be awarded the Order of the Rising Sun, Silver Rays, for her longstanding contributions to the promotion of exchange between Japan and the UK.

 

2. Mrs Anne Malcolm, from Aberdeen, Scotland, was inspired by the great work of her countryman, Thomas Blake Glover, and established the charity, The Thomas Blake Glover Foundation, to promote Japan – Scotland exchanges. She has worked tirelessly to enhance friendship and goodwill between Japan and Scotland. The Thomas Blake Glover Foundation was the first private friendship organisation to send 14 members to Nagasaki City to visit places associated with Glover. This became one of the drivers for the Friendship Agreement between the cities of Nagasaki and Aberdeen.

 

3. The Consulate General of Japan in Edinburgh pays tribute to Mrs Malcolm’s many years of service and congratulates her on this award. The Consulate hopes that the bonds of goodwill between Japan, the UK and Scotland, cultivated by Mrs Malcolm, develops further.
