On the 13th of May, Consul General Tadashi Fujiwara was invited to attend the Dedication Ceremony at the Merchiston Castle School in Edinburgh.

Previously, on the 16th March 2022, three cherry trees donated by The Sakura Cherry Tree Project, were planted at the school—one Beni-yutaka, one Tai-haku and one Yedoensis species.

The project was established in Autumn 2017 under the leaderships of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Prime Minister Theresa May to marks 150 years of Japan-UK friendship.

At the ceremony, the Consul General provided the opening address, followed by a recital of haiku and Japanese poetry created by the school’s students.
