Report - Conferment ceremony on the occasion of Mrs Anne Malcolm being awarded the Order of the Rising Sun, Silver Rays (2022)

On the 11^th of July, Consul General Tadashi Fujiwara conferred the Order of the Rising Sun with Silver Rays upon Mrs. Anne Malcolm, founding president of the Thomas Blake Glover Foundation, during a ceremony at the official residence. Mrs. Malcolm shares the same hometown as the famous Thomas Blake Glover, and it was through his inspiring legacy that she created the foundation. Dedicated to promoting cultural exchange between Scotland and Japan, the foundation organised the visit of 14 specialists in culture and tourism to the city of Nagasaki. From this visit, the ties of Aberdeen and Nagasaki would grow stronger over the years, with the two eventually becoming sister cities. For these endeavours, Mrs. Malcolm was honoured with the Order of the Rising Sun. Following Consul General Fujiwara's introduction of her accomplishments and a presentation of the decoration, Mrs. Malcolm expressed her appreciation and enjoyed the company of those present with a celebratory lunch.
