Opening of the Sakubei Yamamoto Exhibition at the National Mining Museum Scotland (29th July 2022)

On Friday 29th of July, an exhibition on the works of Sakubei Yamamoto was opened at the National Mining Museum of Scotland. Dedicated to the experiences of mining in Japan, the collection was Japan`s first entry in UNESCO`s Memory of the World programme. In attendance was deputy consul general Minori Ishii, who made a short speech on the importance of the exhibition as well as expressing her appreciation for a singer-songwriter Ms. Naomi Suzuki and staff of the Museum. Ms. Naomi Suzuki, who was born in the same town as Sakubei Yamamoto, spoke of her efforts in bringing the exhibition to the UK and performed two songs for those in-attendance. Along with Yamamoto`s art, lanterns created by school children from across East Lothian were displayed. In the lead up to the event, a competition was held for schools to enter their lantern designs, with the winners being announced at the opening of the exhibition. The exhibition runs until 30th October. |
