On the 24th of August, Consul General Tadashi Fujiwara was hosted by Royal Navy Fleet Commander Vice Admiral Andrew Burns for dinner aboard the Royal Yacht Britannia, before attending the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo. Britannia, in a period spanning 44 years from 1953 until 1997, served as the Royal Yacht for Her Majesty The Queen. The Military Tattoo, meanwhile, is held annually at Edinburgh castle in August, and features a parade of musicians and military personnel belong to both British and international militaries. Dressed in traditional Scottish costumes and regalia, they performed a truly spectacular show.
This year marks the 120th anniversary of the conclusion of the Anglo-Japanese Alliance, with defence cooperation between the UK and Japan only continuing to deepen. In June, two training ships of the Japan Maritime Self-Defence Force paid a visit to the UK, whilst the Royal Navy’s Carrier Strike Group (CSG21) visited Japan the year before that.
As the guest of honour, Consul General Fujiwara entered the stage area of the Military Tattoo with Vice Admiral Burns and was introduced to the audience before the show
