On Thursday the 9th of February, and then on the following two Fridays (17th and 24th), a Japanese film festival was held at the University of Edinburgh. The event was co-sponsored by the Japanese Language Department of the university and The Japan Foundation, and was opened on the first day by Consul General Tadashi Fujiwara.

Each film screening was preceded by a short introduction on Japanese culture by a lecturer with relevant knowledge in the field, enabling participants to view the films with a background of the cultural context in mind. Following the screening, a brief reception was held, where participants enjoyed Japanese food and drinks and engaged in a lively exchange of opinions about the films shown. The screenings were a great success, with a total of 293 people attending across the three evenings.

The following films were screened at this year's event:

Little Nights, Little Love (2019)
Key of Life (2012)
Neko Ninja (2017)
