Position:               Housekeeper / Assistant to Butler
Salary:                  Around £30,000 per annum + Paid Overtime / Other Benefits
Schedule:             Full Time (35 Hours per week); Live-out
                            9:30am - 5:30pm, Monday to Friday (Lunch: 1:00-2:00pm)
                            Work on evenings, weekends or holidays may be required
Contract Type:      Initially 2-year fixed-term; Open-ended after 4 years
Location:               Murrayfield, Edinburgh
Requirements:      The legal right to work in the UK; Criminal record check

The Opportunity:
Based in Edinburgh, the Consulate General of Japan is seeking to recruit a Housekeeper/Assistant to Butler for the Official Accommodation of the Consul General of Japan. This is a full-time live-out position, subject to a probationary period and will start as soon as possible.
If you are an experienced housekeeper looking for a fresh challenge, this is a fantastic opportunity to join our friendly support team at the Japanese diplomatic mission in Edinburgh, where you will have the responsibility for all aspects of housekeeping and upkeep of the Official Accommodation of the Consul General of Japan. Working alongside a Butler and a Japanese Chef, this is an exciting job for someone interested in Japanese culture to gain new experience while supporting the diplomatic activities of the Consul General of Japan. You will be responsible for the general cleaning and laundry duties, ensuring the general smooth running of the Residence for daily tasks as well as assisting events and hosting guests. We are seeking to recruit an individual who is hardworking, discreet who is also a team-player and someone that takes pride in their work.

Main duties and responsibilities:
Residence Events and catering responsibilities
  • Ensure residence is in perfect order for receiving guests
  • Assist with events preparation set up and serving meals
  • Adaptability and a welcoming attitude towards changes
Household cleaning, washing and ironing
  • General cleaning and laundry
  • Specific cleaning (Antique, Silverware, work of arts)
Other duties
  • Assist the Residence Butler and the Chef with specific task requirements
Your skills and attributes
  • Fluency in English
  • Strong hospitality skills (previous experience in Hotel or private residence setting would be desirable but not essential)
  • Ability to work within a team or independently
  • Strong interpersonal and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and to operate flexibly in respect of working hours or duties. Position will require out of hours work in evenings/at weekends (overtime pay will be offered). Individuals unavailable to work out-of-hours should not apply for this post.
  • Willing to take on new responsibilities as necessary
  • Driving Licence would be preferable
