Governor of Gunma Prefectural Government Ichita Yamamoto’s visit to Scotland (November 9th & 10th 2023)
2023/12/1

On November 9th & 10th (Thursday & Friday), during his visit to the region, Governor of Gunma Prefectural Government Ichita Yamamoto visited Education Scotland to exchange opinions about the Scottish government’s Social Emotional Learning (or SEL) educational system which focuses on non-cognitive abilities, as well as discussing future cooperation with Gunma Prefecture in this field. The Governor was particularly interested in meeting with Education Scotland due to Scotland’s unique education system which has a strong focus on non-cognitive abilities, and Scotland’s international recognition as a leading SEL country. Governor Yamamoto visited both Westfield Primary School and West Calder High School in Livingston, which have adopted an advanced educational curriculum. He then visited Dundee City Council and the University of Dundee, where he discussed the implementation of collaborative research on SEL between Gunma Prefecture and Scotland. It is hoped that this visit will lead to the development of student and academic exchanges between Gunma Prefecture and Scotland, such as joint research on SEL and the creation of exchange programmes spanning all levels from elementary school to high school.
