On November 17th, 2023 (Friday), the JET Programme returnee reception was held at the University of Edinburgh, to welcome returnees and interested parties. The reception was jointly hosted by the London office of the Council of Local Authorities for International Relations (CLAIR).

In addition to the JET returnees and interested parties, members of the Scottish Government, the Japan Society of Scotland, JET AA (JET Alumni Association) Scotland, and Japanese companies in Scotland were in attendance.

Consul General Tadashi Fujiwara started with an introductory speech, after which Deputy Director General of the CLAIR London Ichii Makoto, Director of External Affairs from Scottish Government Scott Wightman, JET AA Scotland Chair Zeljka Letica & the Japan Society of Scotland Chair Ian Gow had warm words of welcome for the JET returnees.

Afterwards, the JET returnees spoke about their experiences in Japan and their hopes for the future, and there were friendly exchanges of various topics throughout the reception.

JET stands for the Japan Exchange and Teaching programme. The JET Programme started in 1987, and its purpose is to promote internationalisation by inviting young people from other countries to engage in foreign language education and interaction in Japan at a native level.
