Attendance at the opening of contemporary artist Yumiko Ono's exhibition (November 30th 2023)
2023/12/11
| On Thursday, 30th November, Deputy Consul General Minori Ishii attended the opening of the exhibition "FORM: a season of exhibitions by contemporary female sculptors," which showcases works by Yumiko Ono, a contemporary artist who is widely active internationally. Ono was an Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop (ESW) resident artist as part of the "2019-2022 Scotland-Japan Exchange Residency Programme", during which time she created the work "Composition IV", which is part of this exhibition. On the day of the event, Deputy Consul General Ishii viewed a large-scale architectural work made with wood and ceramic and received a direct explanation on the pieces from Ono. Ono explained, "Recently, I have started to focus on scalable artwork. Multiplying with moulds and assembling pieces of complete units which would fit into any kind of space. In the future I would like to expand my work beyond art pieces and into architecture so that I can push the boundary between art, architecture, and ceramics.” She also mentioned “Composition I” and “Composition II” which were made using the same materials (wood and ceramic) as the exhibited work. The exhibition is being held at the Summer Hall in Edinburgh until 25th February 2024 (Free admission). These works can also be viewed on Yumiko Ono’s website: (https://www.yumikoono.com/) |
