On January 18th, Consul General Fujiwara, Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP) Jackie Dunbar, and Fusion Whisky Director Jim Millar met and discussed strengthening Scotland and Japan’s relations more than ever. MSP Dunbar is from Aberdeen, the birthplace of Thomas Glover, who was deeply connected to Japan during the Bakumatsu and Meiji Restoration periods. She was a member of the city’s council before becoming an MSP and wants to strengthen the relationship between Scotland and Japan. Director Millar was also a long time member of the Scottish Parliament, and received a commendation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for promoting friendship between Scotland and Japan in 2017.

Incidentally at the conference, there were discussions on Scotland and Japan’s unique views. The keyword was “whisky”. After leaving the Scottish Parliament, Millar has went on to represent ‘Glover Whisky’, a blend of whisky from Scotland’s Adelphi Distiller and Japan’s Chichibu Distiller, which is famous for their ‘Ichiro’s Malt’, creating the impression of a new horizon in Scotland and Japan’s relationship before your very eyes.
