2024/1/29

On the 24th of January, Consul General Tadashi Fujiwara attended the Consular Corps’ Burns Supper hosted by the Presiding Officer of the Scottish Parliament, Rt Hon Alison Johnstone MSP. The Burns Supper celebrates the life and poetry of Robert Burns, Scotland’s leading national poet, and is held on Burns’ birthday (January 25th). Burns’ signature poem “Auld Lang Syne” is known as “Hotaru no Hikari” (Glow of the fireflies) in Japan.
In addition to the Presiding Officer, about 30 members of the Scottish Parliament from various parties and Scottish Government senior officials attended the event, which allowed us to deepen exchanges with the consular delegation. Consul General Fujiwara sat at the same table as the Presiding Officer, allowing them to exchange views on the cooperative relationship between Japan and Scotland throughout the evening.
