On February 27th, Deputy Consul General Minori Ishii and First Secretary of the Embassy of Japan in the UK Yoshiko Matsunaga participated in the second Scotland-Japan Language Education networking meeting by BATJ (British Association for Teaching Japanese as a Foreign Language, led by Fumiko Narumi, lecturer at the University of Edinburgh).

BATJ Scotland’s project “Developing locally-based communities for Japanese language teachers in the UK” aims to strengthen the network of Japanese language teachers and invigorate Japanese language education in Scotland, where Japanese language education opportunities are decreasing for local schools and Japanese residents living in another country.

The meeting was also attended by Ms Shona Hugh of Education Scotland, along with various participants from the University of Edinburgh, the University of Glasgow, the British Embassy, the Japan Foundation, the Japan Society of Scotland, the Orkney Japan Association, and others, who exchanged opinions on various topics, including the present situation of Japanese language education, policies and future activities.

Details of the project can be found here.
