On February 16th (Friday) and 22nd (Thursday), the Japanese Film Festival was held at the University of Edinburgh. The event was jointly sponsored by the University of Edinburgh’s department of Japanese Studies and the Japan Foundation.

Starting with a greeting speech from Consul General Tadashi Fujiwara, there was a lecture about Japanese culture related to the film before each screening, from a speaker with a Japanese related background and a deep knowledge of the culture, which was met with a very favourable response.

After the film screenings, a simple reception was held, where guests had fun trying Japanese food and drink along with a lively exchange of opinions about the films. This year’s film screenings were a great success, with a total of 321 guests attending the two screenings.

The following two films were shown at the screenings.
Kamome Diner (2006)
Sumodo ~The Successors of Samurai~ (2020)
