DCG Ishii giving congratulatory speech
On Saturday, March 16th, Deputy Consul General Ishii attended the graduation ceremony of the Northeast England Japanese Saturday School. In her congratulatory message to the five kindergarten, six elementary, and two junior high school students graduating, Deputy Consul General Ishii praised the students’ efforts saying, “I think that it must have been difficult to balance responsibilities from both the Japanese Saturday school and local school such as taking classes and doing homework. It can’t all have been fun, and I’m sure there will have also been hard times. But, after overcoming all of these obstacles, all of your faces are full of a sense of accomplishment and confidence.”  Expanding on this with expectations of the future she said, “learning a language is not easy, but being able to see things from a broader perspective through Japanese and English will enrich your life and give you more choices. So, to all of you who are graduating today, please do not forget the Japanese language and continue to study. I hope that in the future, you will play an active role as a bridge between Japan and the UK.”
