On the 18th of March, Deputy Consul General Ishii visited the FloWave Ocean Energy Research Facility at the University of Edinburgh with members of a delegation from the Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) at the introduction of Mr. Takaaki Morita, Executive Adviser to the Director within the Office for Research Initiatives and Development at Nagasaki University.

The facility is the only one in the world with a circular wave and current experiment tank with a diameter of 25 meters and a depth of 2 meters in which it is possible to mimic real-life coastal waters by creating conditions such as waves, currents, and tides. The tank is used for the testing and development of new technologies for floating offshore wind power generation, wave power generation, tidal current power generation, and other equipment, which is helping to promote renewable energy development and progress towards the realisation of a decarbonised society.
