Job Details:
The Consulate General of Japan in Edinburgh is seeking a qualified individual who can perform as an assistant to the Consular and Security Section. You will be required to support Japanese diplomats posted in the Consulate General of Japan in Edinburgh, as well as working within a team of locally employed staff to support the wider functions of the Consulate.
Duties include :
- Responding to enquiries regarding visa, passport or any other consular matters
- Various investigations and inspections with local companies regarding security-related contracts and maintenance work, etc.
- Perform security duties such as access control, patrols on foot, monitoring CCTV, security checks, responding to emergencies by following emergency response procedures, paperwork related to the security section, etc.
- Coordinate with security guards, security company and the police
- Assist the diplomats in monitoring and reporting crime, peace and order situations in the area under the jurisdiction of the Consulate
- Other miscellaneous duties as assigned by the Consulate.
Requirements:
- Have a residence status that allows you to work in the UK (British citizenship, UK permanent residence, UK spouse visa, etc.)
- Degree-level academic background, with English language as a mother tongue or equivalent, both spoken and written.
- Fluent in Japanese, both spoken and written
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills as well as the ability to work as a part of a team or independently in a multi-cultural environment.
- Highly organised and able to multitask
- Ability to work overtime as directed by the needs of the Consulate
- Flexibility, a sense of responsibility, attention to detail, and perseverance to carry out complicated tasks with accuracy.
- Discretion to help build networks with UK and Scottish government departments and other organisations
- Ability to follow the instructions of the supervisors
