On November 22nd, the awards ceremony for the Foreign Minster’s Award was held for the Japan Society of Scotland/JSS.

To begin, Consul General Tadashi Fujiwara introduced JSS’s achievements thus far. JSS was founded in 1986 and aims to spread knowledge about Japan to Scotland, to promote business and cultural relations, and to cooperate with similar groups. They have regularly held events on a wide range of Japanese topics such as literature, movies & music, history & culture, and traditional performing arts noh and kabuki. In addition to this, to increase the understanding of Japan and Japanese culture to young people, they have implemented a scholarship system for young people interested in Japan related research and events, as well as provided financial support and supplies to local primary schools who are learning about Japanese culture. In recognition of these efforts, they were presented with the Foreign Minister’s Award.

Ian Gow of JSS gave thanks in a speech talking about his hope for continued development in the relationship between Japan and the UK.

Members of JSS were in attendance at the ceremony, and there was a friendly atmosphere throughout.
