Meeting with Chair of Durham County Council and Mayor of Durham (4th April 2025)

On 4 April, Acting Consul General Minori Ishii visited Durham City Hall and met with the Chair of Durham County Council, Cllr Joan Nicholson, and the Right Worshipful, the Mayor of Durham, Cllr Liz Brown. Durham has enjoyed close ties with Japan for many years and the city is home to 10 Japanese companies, a Japanese language department at Durham University, and the Durham campus of Teikyo University. Additionally, Durham County Council launched a fund for those affected by the Great Japan Earthquake in 2011.
 
During their meeting, Acting Consul General Ishii spoke with Cllr Nicholson and Mayor Brown about the long-standing friendly relationship between Durham and Japan. Acting Consul General Ishii then exchanged thoughts on future cooperation on a wide range of topics with Durham's Chief Business and Foreign Investment Officers and other officials, after which she was given a factory tour of a solar power generation company which is currently being supported by the city of Durham.
