On April 26th, Consul General Takeda attended the “Sakura @ Lauriston Castle” Japanese culture event. This event is held annually by a local Japanese group, Japan Sakura in Scotland of Connecting Japanese, and aims to not only bring together the Japanese community living nearby, but also to provide local residents with the chance to interact with and learn about Japanese culture.

The Consul General took a tour of Lauriston Castle and viewed the Scottish Bonsai Association’s bonsai exhibition, as well as outdoor activities such as outside yukata, origami and kendama experiences. Additionally, there were indoor Hina Matsuri decorations and a Japanese food sample exhibition.

Lauriston Castle is also home to the Kyoto-Edinburgh Friendship Japanese Garden, in which the cherry blossoms were enjoyed by many with a background of the sea and the sky.
