On Sunday 25 May, Consul General Katsutoshi Takeda attended the Scottish Bonsai National Exhibition, organised by the Scottish Bonsai Society and held in Broxburn near Edinburgh. The Society, which holds the National Exhibition annually, was founded in Edinburgh in 1979 and has several branches across Scotland, including Ayr, Perth, Forth Valley, Glasgow and Penicuik.
There was a large number of attendees of all ages, making the event a huge success. In addition to demonstrations of how to shape bonsai, there was also an exhibition and sale of bonsai and related goods, making it the biggest bonsai event in Scotland.
It is extremely gratifying that bonsai has become so deeply rooted in Scotland as a part of Japanese culture, and hopefully cultural exchange between the two countries will continue to be promoted through bonsai.
