Meeting with Mr. Harry Ross, Librettist of the new opera “The Great Wave”

On 6th June, Mr. Harry Ross, the Librettist of a new opera "The Great Wave" visited the Consulate General of Japan in Edinburgh to meet with Consul General Katsutoshi Takeda.
The opera is based on the life of Katsushika Hokusai and is the latest work by Japanese composer Dai Fujikura, who has been working with Scottish Librettist Harry Ross for about 20 years. Many Japanese people are involved in the composition, direction, stage design, and cast of the opera, making this an international co-production with Scottish Opera.
The world premiere will be in Glasgow in February 2026, followed by four performances in Scotland: two in Glasgow on February 12th and 14th, and two in Edinburgh on February 19th and 21st.
We welcome the world premiere in of this new opera based on the work of Katsushika Hokusai, a symbol of Japanese culture, in Scotland. We hope that this international co-production will not only encourage the further involvement of Japanese members in such productions, but also promote further cultural exchange between Scotland and Japan.
