On 17 June, Consul General Katsutoshi Takeda visited the Dunard Centre which is currently under construction and will be the first, purpose-built concert hall in Edinburgh in more than a century. The centre is being designed for all kinds of music and will hold around 1,000 seats. As well as studios that will be used for non-concert purposes such as education, rehearsal and recording, the Centre will have a cafe, and other facilities. It is intended to be the home of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra and a new venue for the Edinburgh International Festival.

The Consul General visited the proposed construction site which had been cleared following the demolition of the building which previously sat on the site, and toured the adjacent Bank Hall which is planned to be connected to the facility in the future. The Consul General also took a virtual tour showing what the facility will look like once completed.

Nagata Acoustics, a Japanese firm that also worked on Suntory Hall in Japan, was involved in the acoustic design of the Concert Hall. We are extremely pleased that Japanese technology is contributing to the creation of the Dunard Centre in Scotland, and we hope that this project will give rise to new artistic exchange between Scotland and Japan.
