Consul General’s visit to the construction site of Sumitomo Electrics subsea cable factory

On Thursday 3rd July, Consul General Katsutoshi Takeda visited the site of Sumitomo Electrics subsea cable factory under construction at the Port of Nigg in the Scottish Highlands. Construction of the 58,000 square meter factory on the 15-hectare site will be a 350-million-pound project and a monumental first investment project in the green freeport. The factory will manufacture cables to connect offshore wind farms to the UK mainland electricity grid, as well as a 525kV XLPE(cross-linked polyethylene insulated) High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC)subsea cable the world's highest voltage technology. The establishment of the plant is expected to create approximately 190 jobs and an additional 330 UK jobs across Sumitomo Electrics supply chain.
