Spring 2025 Decoration Ceremony held for Mr. Calum Farquhar

On Thursday 31st July, Consul General Takeda Katsutoshi held a ceremony at the Consulate General of Japan in Edinburgh’s official residence to present the Order of the Rising Sun, Silver Rays to Mr Callum Farquhar, Regional Scout Commissioner for the East of Scotland, who received the Order of the Rising Sun, Silver Rays in the Spring 2025 Conferment of Decorations on Foreign Nationals.
As Regional Scout Commissioner for the East of Scotland, Mr Farquhar has made significant contributions to promoting youth exchange and mutual understanding between Japan and Scotland for over 30 years. In particular, he organized fundraising activities in Scotland and made donations to support Scouts along the coast of Iwate Prefecture, which was affected by the tsunami following the Great East Japan Earthquake. He also led an Iwate Scout troop participating in the Scottish International Patrol Jamborette, and a British Scout troop to the World Scout Jamboree held in Japan in 2015.
At the ceremony, Consul General Takeda spoke of Mr. Farquhar's achievements to date and expressed his respect and gratitude for his contributions.
Mr Farquhar then said a few words and expressed how honoured he felt to receive the Order of the Rising Sun, Silver Rays and extended his gratitude to those who had supported his activities to date. He paid tribute to his friend from Iwate Prefecture who he had worked with in scouting activities, and who was also awarded the Order of the Rising Sun, Silver Rays in the same Spring 2025 conferment of decoration ceremony. Mr In closing, Mr Farquhar expressed his desire to continue to play an active role in further promoting friendly relations between Japan and Scotland
