2025 JET Returnees Reception

On Friday 24th October, Consul General Katsutoshi Takeda hosted a reception at the Consul General's residence to welcome home JET Programme participants returning from Japan. The event as co-hosted with the London office of the Japan Local Government Centre. In addition to the JET participants, members of the Japan Society of Scotland, the Scottish chapter of JETAA (the JET Alumni Association), as well as people involved with Japanese companies in Scotland and Scottish universities, also participated.
In his welcoming remarks, Consul General Takeda stated that JET Programme participants serve as a bridge of friendship between Japan and the UK, and he expressed his hope that participants will further deepen their exchanges with Japan through JETAA. Next, warm welcoming remarks were given to the returning JET participants by a representative of the event’s co-host, Mr Masaki Oyabu, Assistant Director of the London Office of the Japan Local Government Centre (CLAIR London), and by Matthew Sanders, representing JETAA Scotland. The event was then officially opened with a toast by Professor Ian Gow, Chair of the Japan Society of Scotland. During the reception, returning participants shared their experiences of Japan and their future aspirations, resulting in lively and enjoyable conversations throughout.
JET is an acronym for The Japan Exchange and Teaching Programme. The JET Programme was launched in 1987 with the aim of promoting internationalisation at local levels by inviting young people from overseas to Japan to engage in foreign language education and international exchange.
