Visit to V&A Dundee
2025/11/4
On Tuesday 4th November, Consul General Katsutoshi Takeda visited V&A Dundee with Cllr Bill Campbell, the Lord Provost of Dundee.
V&A Dundee opened in 2018 and is Scotland's first full-scale design museum. It is the only domestic and international branch of the Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A) in London. The building was designed by the Japanese architect Kengo Kuma. It features a complex and unique exterior, inspired by the rugged cliffs of the Scottish coastline. Additionally, it serves as a central facility in Dundee's waterfront redevelopment project and has become a symbol of urban regeneration.
During the visit, Consul General Takeda was guided by the director, Ms Leonie Bell in viewing the architecture of the building by Kengo Kuma, V&A Dundee’s permanent exhibitions, and "Garden Futures: Designing with Nature", the special exhibition currently on display. Numerous Japan-related events have been held at V&A Dundee including special exhibitions on kimono, a photography exhibition by Japanese photographer Sohei Nishino, and performances by the Tanaka School of Kabuki percussionists. Consul General Takeda expressed his gratitude to Director Bell for the V&A Dundee's significant contributions to promoting Japanese culture, whilst they also engaged in a broad exchange of views regarding future cooperation and collaboration.
