On Wednesday 3rd December, Consul General Katsutoshi Takeda visited Celtic Football Club and met with Michael Nicholson, Chief Executive Officer.

Celtic Football Club began as a local charitable enterprise in Glasgow in 1887, and now has fans around the world. There have been many Japanese players in the team previously, including Shunsuke Nakamura, and there are currently four Japanese players: Daizen Maeda, Reo Hatate, Hayato Inamura, and Shin Yamada.

On the day, CEO Nicholson expressed praise for the Japanese players old and new, and explained that they are also putting effort into disseminating information to Japanese fans. Consul General Takeda expressed his gratitude for contribution to exchanges made with Japan through football, as well as exchanged views on future cooperation and collaboration.

The match began with Maeda and Hatate starting, and Maeda scored a goal which won the game and ended Martin O’Neill’s 5 weeks as Celtic’s interim manager.
