On Saturday 31st January, Consul General Katsutoshi Takeda attended the 39th Annual General Meeting of the Japan Society of Scotland and delivered the closing remarks. Consul General Takeda highlighted the special viewing of the Henry Dyer Collection organised by the Association and other events supported by the Association. In particular, he spoke of an event which introduced Kabuki and Noh, given by the Kabuki musician Tanaka Denjiro VII and presented by Professor Helen Parker of the University of Edinburgh, who is also the Association’s Vice President. As a special highlight of last year, Consul General Takeda mentioned the awarding of the Order of the Rising Sun, Silver Rays to Mr Callum Farquhar, Regional Scout Commissioner for the East of Scotland, and also the Association’s Treasurer. He expressed renewed gratitude for the Association’s long-standing contribution to promoting friendship between Japan and Scotland. He also stated that, in this year marking the Association's 40th anniversary, he hopes to continue further collaboration and cooperation.

On the same day, following the general meeting, there was a talk by the Scottish folk rock band “BRUACH”. The talk mainly covered their activities during their visit to Japan especially about the performance . It included introductions to traditional wind instruments such as the shō, ryūteki, and hichiriki which feature in Gagaku(Old Japanese Court Music), which the band incorporated into their performances. It became an opportunity symbolizing cultural exchange between Japan and Scotland through music.
