Holding of “The Great Wave” spin-off talk and panel event

On Wednesday 11th February, a talk and panel spin-off event of the new opera “The Great Wave” with hybrid in-person and online attendance, was held by the Consulate General of Japan in Edinburgh, in collaboration with the University of Edinburgh.
On the day, using the theme “What is Theatre?”, “The Great Wave” scenographer Junpei Kiz gave a keynote speech titled “Landscape THEATRE” about “site specific theatre” using practical examples from Avignon Festival.
The five panellists that gave talks are below.

-Emily Clarkson, PhD student at Edinburgh College of Art
-Harry Ross, Librettist of "The Great Wave"
-Jack McGregor, Institute for Advanced Studies/Traverse Creative Fellow
-Niall Black, Head of Production at the Scottish Opera
A discussion centred around the question “How is Landscape THEATRE and site specific theatre physically practiced and experienced?” was moderated by Dr Helen Parker, lecturer at the University of Edinburgh. The panellists shared their opinions, resulting in a heated debate. Attendees were separated into buzz groups to discuss their views and share their results with everyone, leading to a deeper conversation.
