On Thursday 12th February, Cultural Consul Masataka Abe attended the programme launch event of the 2026 Edinburgh Science Festival.
The Edinburgh Science Festival began in 1989 as the world's first festival dedicated to science and technology. It is held every year during the Easter holidays. This year, under the theme 'Going Global,', a variety of programmes including science and technology shows, hands-on activities, and engaging talks for audiences of all ages will be held from Saturday, 4th April to Sunday, 19th April.
During the event, Hassun El-Zafar, Director & CEO of the Edinburgh Science Festival shared the thoughts behind this year’s theme and introduced the programme. Then, Dr. Gayle Chong Kwan spoke about a large-scale art piece which she created that brings together contemporary sculpture and reflections on science’s cultural legacy with the theme “Rethinking Scientific Histories”.
